Kildare North Fianna Fáil to Select Local Election Candidates

The Kildare North Fianna Fáil organisation is to select its candidates for the upcoming local elections that are set to take place in May 2014. The party will select members for each of the three electoral areas by ballot of its members under the new One Member One Vote rules.

The party’s candidate selection convention for the Maynooth electoral area will take place on 1st October at Kilcock GAA at 8pm. The Naas electoral area convention will be held on 2nd October at the Townhouse Hotel, Naas at 9pm. The Celbridge electoral area convention will be on 3rd October at the Courtyard Hotel, Leixlip at 8pm.

High Court Rules Government Tender Processes Illegal

A country wide group of small businesses, including Kildare managed Copier Supplier EMS Copiers, have successfully taken legal action against the government for effectively changing the basic terms and conditions of a public tender after it had been agreed.

The group instructed James Wall Solicitors based in Clane to challenge the position adopted by the State. James Wall stated “The case was fully defended at great expense but the High Court agreed with the applicant companies’ position which was that the Minister had no entitlement to interfere with the procedure after it had concluded and as a result rule out the possibility of local businesses doing business with other local businesses. The Court held that any interference was unlawful and therefore ineffective”.

That ruling is binding on the government but the State has not yet taken any positive action to implement the decision.

Kildare Tidy Towns Deserve Better

Several Tidy Towns groups around the county received news last week that their annual grant allocation under the Kildare County Council amenity fund would not be approved this year. This news is a massive setback to the trojan work and the huge voluntary effort members do in every area. This is a slap in the face for Tidy Towns as “Gathering” takes grant money away.

Naas Fianna Fáil representative, James Lawless, said he had been contacted by several groups who were bitterly disappointed at this news.

Kildare North FF Welcomes U-Turn on Sale of Coillte

Kildare North Fianna Fáil welcome the announcement by the Government that is has reversed its decision to sell Coillte’s harvesting rights. This will bring relief to residents in Kildare who were worried over the future of Donadea forest.

FF spokesperson Deputy Ó Cuív said the Government finally decided to listen to reason and perform a U-turn on the “ridiculous” proposal.
