Doyle Calls For Urgent Traffic Calming Works At Johnstown Bridge and Kilshanroe

JohnstownbridgeLocal Election candidate Ben Doyle has called on Kildare County Council to urgently carry out Traffic Calming Works at Johnstown Bridge and Kilshanroe.

€143,000 was already provided to the Council for the proposed works by the Department of Transport in December 2013 but work has yet to begin on the Traffic Calming for the two villages.

Local residents are very concerned to the increase in traffic speed arising from recent works on the Edenderry to Enfield Road Improvement Scheme, which was officially opened on April 15th last.

“There have been a number of crashes in both villages, including an overturned lorry just last week”, said Ben Doyle, who is a local election candidate for Fianna Fáil in the area.

“Traffic Calming facilities in Johnstown Bridge and Kilshanroe have been needed for quite some time but traffic speed has increased through the area since the incoming roads were widened and upgraded”.

“Kildare County Council need to prioritise these works as a matter of urgency, especially given the fact that they have already been granted the required funding by the Department of Transport”, concluded Mr. Doyle.

Kildare County Council has confirmed that Traffic counts were carried out last September and results of the survey showed excessive speeding in both villages.
