At the Fianna Fáil Celbridge area convention on 3rd October, the party members selected two candidates to contest next year’s local elections for the area.
Cllr. Frank O’Rourke and Gráinne Whelan were selected by a ballot of the members which took place at the Courtyard Hotel in Leixlip. The convention was chaired by Laois TD Sean Fleming.
Frank is currently a county councillor for the area having being co-opted to the seat in 2010 after long standing councillor Paul Kelly retired his seat. Frank, originally from Leitrim, now lives in Celbridge with his family. He works for Irish Tar and Bitumen Suppliers. He served in the role of Director of Elections for Fianna Fáil in Kildare North during the very successful 2007 election campaign.
Gráinne Whelan, a new candidate for the party, was also selected to run by the members. Gráinne, who was born and raised in Leixlip, has now settled there with her family. She is a solicitor by profession.
Both Frank and Gráinne were instrumental in the renewal of the party in the area, and now look forward to the challenge of being elected to Kildare County Council. Convention chairman Sean Fleming TD stated that it is the party’s intention to win two seats in Celbridge LEA in next year’s local elections.
